YBLTV Tech Review: Coast HX3 Cliplight

Coast HX3 Cliplight Shines a Bright Light for Any Smart Home

When I received the Coast HX3 Cliplight to review, I began to imagine all the ways I could demonstrate the qualities of the product in a practical situation. Ironically, the most practical situation found me over this past summer when I was among the 23,000 people who lost all power in my city.

Midway through dinner, the lights in my house suddenly all turned off. More importantly, I lost air conditioning in the middle of summer in the Mojave Desert. I immediately seized my opportunity, clipping the Coast HX3 Cliplight to my shirt. While the light couldn’t keep me cool with the A/C down, it did light my way.

As the storm began to rage with whipping wind and rainfall, I explored all that my new light could offer. The Cliplight has two settings; a bright UV light and a red light to preserve your night vision. Whichever light you turn on, the light may be directed to point up, in front of you, or down at your feet to watch where you’re walking. The light also has an adjustable beam that can focus directly on a target or give a wide range of sight.

“Whether out hiking at night or stuck without electricity, the Coast HX3 is incredibly useful,”William Fraser, YBLTV Writer / Reviewer

The Coast HX3 runs on two AAA batteries. It’s not the most energy efficient light on the market, but it is incredibly simple and cheap to replace the batteries. As the Coast HX3 markets itself as “weather resistant,” I couldn’t help but take the light with me out into the storm. Not surprisingly, the HX3 Cliplight never so much as flickered while under the downpour.
