Power Your World Anywhere With Ascent Solar

YBLTV Review – Ascent Solar XD12 Solar Charger

Up until a few years ago, the idea of solar energy was an idea reserved to talking about Science Fiction and the Jetsons. Today we have solar power in everything from landscaping accessories to home battery solutions. Even the latest generation of automotives are incorporating solar technology into their designs. Ascent Solar wants to be sure you can go on your favorite hike or visit your favorite dog park without worrying about the status of your device’s battery. Welcome the Ascent Solar XD12.

“Ascent Solar’s XD12 is a sturdier, more durable panel than some others I’ve come across. So go on, stick it on your backpack and pay attention to your hiking trail.” – Patrick Mackey, @mackeyp42, YBLTV Writer / Reviewer

Available Wherever You Are

Whether you’re playing in the dirt or hanging out at the beach, you no longer have to worry about a dead device battery. Just unfold the XD12, plug in your charger cable, and forget about it. There are no buttons to worry about. No worrying about the correct settings. The only condition you need is the sun. If it is overcast outside, you do have to pay a bit more attention, though. Apple devices seem a little finicky when the sun decides to hide. All that really comes down to, however, if a more frequent unplugging, which really is nothing too strenuous to worry about. That being said however, just plug in and go on with your day. Just like charging your battery at home, only this one can go where you go.

Built For Real Life

The XD12 has four paper-sized panels that are conveniently packaged in a foldable design. The surrounding body is a rubber-like material, that instills confidence that you can take this outdoors, and not worry about babying the product while you use it. Folded up, the XD12 is 3/4″ thick. How could you not throw that in a sack and take it with you? Lightweight and simple to use. It’s hard to argue with that.

Unpacking the XD12 for the first time, I was impressed with the build quality. This is a sturdier, more durable panel than some others I’ve come across. Grommets in the corners so you can attach your panel to a backpack, or hang from an umbrella stand if you need to. It comes with a bungie cord and some carabiners just for that purpose. So go on, stick it on your backpack and pay attention to your hiking trail.

Final Thoughts

Solar Power. A relatively new item, in the scheme of things. I’ve used the XD12 to charge my phone while I was working in the garden. It was nice to be able to charge my phone while sitting at a picnic table. It’s great to be able to have a charging device so close at hand. I don’t do as much hiking as I used to, but the XD12 certainly makes me want to get out and see more sights, knowing that my devices will be ready when I need them.

After getting used to having a solar charger with me, I intend to keep this nearby at all times. With the way things go nowadays: from social media to emails, to talking with family, these device’s batteries just don’t last the way we want them to. Worry no more. Have a seat in the shade while the XD12 brings your device back to life, and you’ll be doing just fine!

With the price point set at $200, it might sound a bit steep, I agree. Though if you think about it, if you’re spending similar prices for hiking boots or a quality tent, is the price really that out of line for the convenience of having power wherever you go?
