YBLTV Review: Steel Knight 1513, Play It for The Nostalgia
Steele Knight 1513 has really captivated me, it brought about the nostalgia of the 2D platformers of my childhood. The absence of saving and checkpoints few and far between gave me memories of similar games such as the original NES Mario to SNES Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. I loved that the game took 2D platform style mixed in with Native American history for a more story-based play through.
With its simple controls (basic movement and sword attack) the Steele Knight 1513 game has you more focused on the surroundings and enemies than complicated mechanics. This game definitely above all else requires an insane amount of PATIENCE (something I was never well versed in relating to these types of games.) Due to this nature, the game can cause intense stress and agitation for certain parts of the levels. Let’s summarize the Pros and Cons below:
- Nostalgic 2D platformer
- Story is historically based
- High difficulty
- Simple controls (movement, item use)
- Gain new equipment by traversing secret levels
- PATIENCE is learned if you haven’t learned it already(!)
- Keeps you on your toes
- NO save point
- Once you die, back to the beginning
- Lose all equipment once you die
“Steel Knight 1513 that retro gaming nostalgia,” – Laura Kirani, YBLTV Writer / Reviewer, @Lkirani91
With a game such as Steel Knight 1513, it takes a lot of time and patience to get where you need to go. Given the attention it needs, you can make your way to the finish line and enjoy every minute of having done so. Despite the game having its fun loving perks, it can be very unforgiving as well with the inability to save at any point in the game. With that being said, the unforgiving nature of the game is also part of the charm. After all, it would not be a nostalgic retro 2D platformer if it were easy now, would it?!
