YBLTV Review: Tequiponch Herb Formula Cocktail
Tequiponch’s Herb Formula herb base cocktail looks like something out of a 90’s comic book, at first glance. The entire bottle is encased in a bright green label, bringing your focus on a green skeleton on a surfboard for the branding. What is this product before me, you will surely ask. I had the bottle in my possession, and I still was uncertain of just what I had.
I have enjoyed a great variety of adult beverages in my time, everything from vodka to the current craft beer trend. I was looking forward to, and a bit daunted by, the idea of what was behind the green label. So, I did what I thought would be best: I called a friend and we arranged for a time to sit down and experience what was before us. Two glasses, some ice, and an intriguing green labeled bottle neither of us had seen before.
At first pour, TequiPonch’s Herb Formula matches the label in style. A strange, dark green liquid emerges from the bottle, and my friend and I give each other a quizzical look. This looks like Absinthe in color. Colored drinks always cause people to cock their head, and think, “hmm, what is that?”
“Flavors from the Don Ramon Tequila and some of those 27 herbs emerge, making you want to pour another glass,” – Patrick Mackey, @mackeyp42, YBLTV Writer / Reviewer
I take a whiff of the concoction in my hand, and it smells sweet. Not at all what I had envisioned when I read that it was a tequila-based cocktail.
At first taste, the Herb Formula invokes the sweetness and flavor reminiscent of a Sweet Tart. Not an unpleasant experience, but nothing like what you think of when talking of something with tequila. As the cocktail warms up, the body of the beverage opens up, and some of that sweetness subsides. Flavors from the Don Ramon Tequila and some of those 27 herbs emerge, making you want to pour another glass.
TequiPonch’s ready to drink cocktails use Don Ramon Tequila. I love the bright, bold colors chosen to make their labeling stand out from the sea of liquor bottles that will surround them in stores. If I had not seen the bottle, I would have no clue that this was an ‘herb style’ cocktail. I could tell you it was sweet, enjoyable, and perplexing to look at, initially.
