This week, I got to experience the distinct pleasure of wearing a hat for my workout routine that functioned shockingly well and has restored my faith in the idea of affordable, functional athletic attire: the Spony ballcap.

In the desert heat of Las Vegas, it’s always important to wear some sun protection on your head to make sure you don’t get too cooked while you’re out and about. That’s why I always try and find a hat that’s both functional and at least mildly fashionable.

And one of the very first things I noticed about my new Spony hat was its aesthetic appeal. In the past, I’ve worn a range of caps while exercising, jogging, or simply going for a walk with my dogs. But those hats were pretty much nondescript, with a boring team or brand logo emblazoned on the front and nothing else.

The Spony hat, on the other hand, manages to marvel with a single color. The pink of the hat positively pops – catching the eyes of passersby and even myself when I walk past a mirror. The big difference maker here is certainly in the quality of the stitching and shaping of the cap, which fits my head perfectly, even though it’s not specifically tailored.

Now let’s talk about the main reason the Spony cap is desirable – its namesake! The back of the cap has a center seam made with Velcro to allow adjustments for ponytails. And believe me, I have far more hair than the average human and this feature makes the Spony hat feel like it was designed with me in mind.

All I have to do is pull my hair through the Velcro closure and seal it tight. You might be thinking: With all that hair, won’t some of it get painfully caught in the Velcro?

Think again. The Spony cap has ingeniously designed pockets on both sides of the closure to allow you to tuck the flaps in and prevent that bane of manes everywhere: hair pulling.

However, even if I didn’t have all this hair, the Spony cap would still function flawlessly as a regular closed, comfortable, and attractive hat.

The Spony ballcap comes in a variety of colors ranging from vibrant pink to cool teal. The next one I want for my collection of functional hats is definitely the black color, which I know will mix well with the rest of my workout wardrobe.
