A Great Gift for the Holidays: Hyleys Slim Teas
It’s always a fun and challenging experience to hunt down new teas to try. For me, it’s always a hit or miss whether or not the tea I pick up at the store will be delicious or just okay. When I got the chance to try 3 new teas by Hyleys Teas, I couldn’t wait! The 3 teas I tried were Detox, Slim Tea (acai berry flavor), and Garcinia Cambogia, all of which help promote weight loss or detoxification.
Overall, I definitely enjoyed each tea. They were all very mild in flavor and easy to drink. Each tea was great with honey and/or a squeeze of lemon. However, there are some things I wasn’t as keen on. For instance, I found the box packaging of the teas a bit too distracting with the large images of women/men in workout attire. In my opinion, it detracts from the actual quality of the tea. There is also a lot of information on all sides of the tea box, like a description of what the tea does, its usage, and detailed directions of how to brew the tea and when to drink it. Although it’s great having the information on the box, perhaps Hyleys could have included some of that information inside of the box so it’s a bit more user-friendly. All of the information is duplicated in another language as well making it challenging to quickly locate the information you are looking for.
Each tea also claims to be Non-GMO, but the tea is not verified by a third party (like the Non-GMO Project) to confirm it is truly GMO-free.
Below, I will go more into detail about each tea and outline the pros and cons.
This tea promotes detoxification by reducing toxins, cleansing the body, betters digestion, and help with blood circulation. I tend to like detox teas and have tried many, most of which have unpleasant flavors. I was surprised this tea didn’t have a bad taste and just tasted like a regular black tea. When I read the ingredients, fennel was on the list, which is a flavor I strongly dislike, but I couldn’t taste it at all. You also cannot taste the ginger root, coriander, or cinnamon, so if you don’t like any of those flavors it shouldn’t deter you from this product since I don’t think you can taste them.
Since the flavor is quite mild overall, to add a little more flavor to the tea, I added honey and lemon. I didn’t mind it just plain, though!
Final thoughts: I could see myself drinking this tea every day since it’s a mellow and easy tea to drink daily. I love that it promotes detoxification and good digestion without any strong and unpleasant flavors. I would recommend this tea to everyone looking to start detoxing his or her body with tea!
This is a green tea that is enhanced with Garcinia Cambogia, a type of exotic fruit. The tea claims to aid in burning body fat, speed up metabolism, curb food cravings, and support digestion. I obviously cannot claim it will help one lose weight or burn body fat since I haven’t used it for an extended period of time, but it did seem to make me eat less during meal times. Upon my own research, this site states that Garcinia Cambogia blocks your body’s ability to store fat and curbs appetite.
The directions say to drink a cup about 30 minutes before a meal. It’s hard for me to say whether me eating less during meals was due to the tea actually curbing my appetite or because I drank an entire cup of tea before I ate, which filled up my stomach. I think in order to see if this tea really works for you, you’d need to drink it consistently before every meal for a few weeks to see if you had any weight loss results. However, I can’t see myself brewing a cup of tea every time I was about to sit down for lunch or dinner, but that may work for some people!
As for the taste, it was quite good. It was very mild and didn’t have that bitter bite that green tea sometimes gets if you steep it too long. I added some organic raw honey to mine and definitely enjoyed my cup. You also cannot taste the Garcinia Cambogia fruit in the tea so don’t be worried about any odd flavors in the tea if you think this is something you’d like to try.
Please do your research about the Garcinia Cambogia fruit before you decide to add this tea to your diet. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this product. Also, if you have diabetes or high cholesterol and are on medications for them, research suggests consuming this fruit in combination medications can be dangerous. Final thoughts: I think this tea has a lot of potential to make you eat less at meals times. Whether that’s because of the tea’s ingredients or because you’re filling your stomach with liquid before meals, I can’t say. Either way, it does the trick if you’re wanting to eat less to lose weight.
I was so pleased when I opened this box of tea. It has such a strong fruity aroma and it smelled delicious. I was concerned that since it was so fragrant the acai flavor would taste artificial, but it didn’t at all! The flavor was so good that I didn’t need to put any honey or lemon in the tea. It’s a perfect tea to drink at the end of the day a bit before you go to sleep, just like the directions say to do. The flavor is calming and satisfying and the perfect night time drink.
I was apprehensive to try this tea, however. One of the Slim Tea’s main ingredients is the senna leaf, which is a natural laxative. I’m always very wary of pills, teas, or other drinks that claim to help you lose weight by including laxatives in the product. To use a product with a laxative daily is quite harsh on your body, especially your posterior, and I don’t believe it should be used for an extended period of time. In my opinion, you should just use this tea as a “jump start” to your weight loss goals and then switch to a tea, such as another non-laxative weight loss tea or just plain green tea, to finish the process.
Final thoughts: The flavor of this tea is absolutely delicious and I think they everyone would enjoy its fruity and slightly floral flavor. It’s a great cup of tea to relax with at the end of the day. I personally don’t like the fact it contains senna leaves. I think Hyleys could have included other natural fat burning ingredients so they didn’t have to put a laxative in the tea, which can give you uncomfortable tummy troubles. I would probably stick to Hyleys Detox Tea daily and maybe a few cups of the Garcinia Cambogia green tea a couple of times a week and then skip their Slim Tea.
