A partnership to combine gestigon’s touchless gesture control capabilities with the award-winning Avegant Glyph to create the next generation of mixed reality interactions
BELMONT, Calif. / LÜBECK, Germany August 24, 2016 Avegant, the leading provider of retinal imaging-based head mounted devices (‘HMD’), and gestigon, a software company focusing on hand-tracking and gesture control solutions, today announced their collaboration to enhance the user experience in mixed reality devices.
Avegant launched its first HMD, the ‘Avegant Glyph’ in early 2016 which won the coveted Editors Choice Award at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. The Avegant Glyph delivers unprecedented image quality for long-format media consumption from any HDMI source, including mobile phones and tablets. The user interface for such forms of media consumption has traditionally been from the media device itself; however, the partnership between Avegant and gestigon will explore the next generation of user interaction. By enabling hand-tracking and gesture control, the user will now be able to add, modify, and create content that is displayed on the Avegant Glyph without the need of an additional controller device.
Avegant and gestigon debuted the first demo of their collaboration at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco on August 16-18. The two companies created a virtual workspace environment that enabled the user to see and interact with different virtual content while using gestigon’s touchless gestures and the Avegant Glyph.
“We have been researching this capability with gestigon since the Avegant Glyph was in early development,” said Joerg Tewes, CEO of Avegant. “With the Avegant Glyph now on the market, we now had the resources to begin this partnership to work on the next generation user experience. I am thrilled to see our progress and look forward to this sort of user experience in mixed reality devices becoming commercially available in the future.”
“When I first experienced an early prototype of the Avegant Glyph in 2015, I was incredibly impressed,” said Moritz v. Grotthuss, CEO of gestigon. “It was our dream to be able to combine gestigon’s touchless gesture control capabilities with Avegant’s outstanding HMD to create the next generation of mixed reality interaction.”
