Happy Conditioning with Andalou Naturals Argan and Sweet Orange Conditioner

I cannot even begin to explain how difficult it was to find a conditioner that was non-GMO, non-toxic, left my hair healthy/soft, and wasn’t over $20! I searched the web for days until I came across Andalou Naturals Argan and Sweet Orange Conditioner. I have been using this brand for about a month now and will never use anything else, it’s that good. My hair is strong (I barely lose any hair in the shower, when I brush or straighten my hair), shiny, smooth, and I don’t have split ends anymore. It’s truly a miracle for hair in a bottle.

The Ingredients

One of the main reasons I love Andalou so much is because their products are non-GMO, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and vegetarian. Many of their ingredients are certified organic and fair trade as well making this conditioner safe and healthy for your body, skin, and of course your hair. On the EWG Skin Deep website, a huge database that rates the toxicity of body care products, this conditioner receives a 2 (1 is the best score a product can receive), so overall it is in the “good” zone.

If you visit Andalou’s Our Ingredients page, they have a comprehensive list of all the ingredients they use in their products, what they do for you, and where they’re derived from.

There are 3 questionable ingredients I wish they would eliminate from this formula, though, and they include stearalkonium chloride, potassium sorbate, and sodium benzoate. You can read up on the concerns about the ingredients here.

It’s key to remember that we must be very cautious about what we put on our skin. Our skin is our body’s largest organ and as soon as we slather lotion on our hands or wash our hair the ingredients in those products are absorbed directly into our blood stream within seconds. You wouldn’t willingly wash your hair with a cancer-causing insecticide like SLS or a known human carcinogen like Quaternium-15/formaldehyde (which is used to preserve dead bodies), right? Read the labels on your body care products, friends! Here is a great resource to get you started learning about the top ingredients to avoid in shampoo and conditioner.

Overall, most of the ingredients in this conditioner are completely safe for your body and health. Although there are those 3 questionable ingredients, they are far less concerning than most others. I feel very comfortable using this on my skin and hair.

Fruit Stem Cell Science

Another really cool aspect of this conditioner and the Andalou brand, in general, is their use of fruit stem cell science. Fruit stem cells promote skin renewal at the cellular level, which is really important when it comes to our scalp and hair. Healthy and radiant hair starts with your scalp so it’s really important for your conditioner to nourish your scalp/hair follicles.

My Personal Experience

When I first started using this product I was a bit iffy if I actually liked it or not. My first attempt didn’t go well because in the past I would never fully rinse the conditioner out of my hair. Not knowing any better, I did the same with this one and it was a disaster. When my hair dried it was stringy and greasy. I learned quickly that with this conditioner you absolutely have to rinse it out fully. Once you think you’ve rinsed enough, rinse some more to ensure your hair doesn’t dry greasy and stringy.

I also noticed that it took my hair a few washes to get used to this new conditioner. My mom and sister also agreed that there is an adjustment period with this product, most likely because this formula is nothing like other products on the market. Essentially, your hair has never experienced anything like it before and needs to get used to it! We all found that for the first few washes when our hair dried, it was a bit frizzy and dry in appearance. However, after about a week or so, the texture of your hair starts to change and it gets silkier and smoother in touch and appearance. A month into using this product my hair still dries on the frizzy side at the top of my head around my face, but as soon as you run a smoothing oil through your hair and straighten it, it smooths right out. My hair has never been stronger, shinier, or smoother thanks to Andalou conditioner! I can also see that the frizziness I have been experiencing is lessening every time I use the conditioner. All you need is a little patience and you’ll see results you will love.

I highly encourage everyone to try out this product. It’s not only safe and non-toxic, but it will make your hair healthier than ever. Plus, it smells great, which is always a huge bonus!

Happy conditioning!
