One of the biggest challenges I face in sustaining a healthy lifestyle is choosing nutritious and satisfying snacks. When 3pm rolls around, I find myself craving a delicious treat to help me through my afternoon slump. The temptation to grab a handful of chips or a sugary yogurt strikes and I have only two options: 1) cave in, eat the chips and experience a couple minutes of glory, or 2) go for a snack filled will healthy fats, fiber, and sweet deliciousness to hold me over until dinner.

Thankfully, 9/10 times I go for number two because I always have Lara Bars on hand! Below, I will outline the reason Lara Bars are delicious, healthy, and perfect for keeping your healthy snacking goals/lifestyle on track.

Why are Lara Bars so healthy?

When I’m at the grocery store looking for healthy snacks, I always look for items with a minimal number of ingredients (that I can actually pronounce), have nutritional value, are non-GMO, contain natural sugars, and are about 200 calories or less. Lara Bars hit all my requirements. These bars are sweetened with dates and other fruits and have no refined sugars. All of the bars contain heart-healthy fats from different kinds of nuts like almonds, cashews, or pecans. Many of their flavors also contain protein, fiber, and potassium. Lara Bars are also kosher, vegan, dairy free, soy free, and gluten free.

My all time favorite flavor is Peanut Butter Cookie, which I will use as an example to show its ingredients and nutritional value.

Ingredients: Dates, peanuts, sea salt.

Protein: 7g

Fiber: 4g

Potassium: 360mg

Really? That’s all? Nothing else? Yes! That’s all, three wholesome ingredients. You can’t get any simpler or less processed than that.

So, do they even taste good?

Surely something with only 3 basic ingredients can’t really be incredibly delicious, right? Yes, it can, and Lara Bars prove that! When you bite into your peanut butter cookie Lara Bar you experience a type of healthy eating euphoria. It’s sweet and gooey chewy like a homemade peanut butter cookie. The touch of sea salt enhances the flavor of the peanuts and dates so you can fully taste each ingredient.

The bar also has a really great texture. Like I said above, it’s chewy, but it also has a buttery smooth feel in your mouth since the ingredients are all blended together into a smooth bar. However, there is also some texture from the ground peanuts which you crunch on every here and there. These sweet, salty, smooth, and slightly crunchy bar make for a very satisfying snack.

Another personal favorite is the Lemon Bar. As someone who is obsessed with sweet and tangy desserts, this flavor satisfies my sugary dessert cravings every time. Again, you have the sweetness from the dates and “buttery-ness” from the ground almonds and cashews, but you get a tart bite from the lemon juice. It feels just like you’re eating a lemon bar!

All of their other 19+ flavors don’t disappoint either. They have coconut cream pie, key lime pie, chocolate chip cookie dough, cappuccino, pecan pie, carrot cake, blueberry muffin, banana bread, and so much more. Are you falling in love yet? It’s like eating a sinful dessert, but you’re actually being healthy and making smart eating choices.

Are there any negatives about these bars?

Although I am hard-pressed to find any negatives, I have two that come to mind. Some may be turned off by the fact that Lara Bars are between 190-220 calories per bar. So if you’re looking for a very low-calorie snack, this may not be the bar for you. Additionally, if you’re strictly watching your sugar intake you may want to proceed with caution. An average bar has around 20g of sugar. However, one does have to keep in mind the sugar content is coming from natural fruit sources.

Overall, if you are someone looking for healthy snacks that are nutritious, delicious, and downright delightful, please try as many Lara Bar flavors as physically possible (but maybe not all in one sitting).
