Smart Home Security
Steve Owen, NXP Semiconductors‘ Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing discusses the challenges we face as we get connected to more things like our smartphones and smart homes. He says the biggest concern is becoming vulnerable to attack from people who want to access our systems. It becomes critical to secure things so that we can really enjoy them, and at NXP, this is done via the same security technology that was developed for the banking industry.
Once we’re protected, with NXP Semiconductor technology we can utilize and enjoy more creature comforts like connected smart ovens and washing machines. The results are examples like an oven that utilizes NFC and RFID tags on the food we’re cooking to access recipes and cooking instructions, or a washing machine that can read RFID tags on clothing to recommend washing cycles and temperatures. It can even diagnose mechanical problems, track your detergent usage in order to order more before you need it…but can anyone or anything guarantee against that red shirt sneaking into your load of whites?…
