We met Audi of America, Engineer and patent-holder Martin Deinhard and Audi of America, Engineer & Inventor of Autonomous Drive Systems, Rudolf Leinfelder.
Featured in the Audi Q7, Martin shows us the on board navigation display that features Google Earth maps, including street view maps for easier navigation in unknown cities. Voice activation rounds out the safety features in this great navigation system. The voice search also offers weather, travel and parking information and fuel prices at local or favorite stations. MMI Connect app on your smartphone or watch allows you to send navigation information to your car remotely as well as start it up, and turn on the heat or air conditioning for optimum comfort.
We also chatted with Rudolf Leinfelder and learned the names of their three fully autonomous vehicles at this year’s CES that have all performed amazing feats. “Bobby” drove 150 mph on Germany’s famed Hockenheimring race track. “Shelley” successfully maneuvered up the treacherous Pikes Peak, and “Jack” drove 500 miles to CES from Silicon Valley fully autonomously.
