Smart Diabetes Tracker “Bee”

San Francisco, CA – Vigilant, the Swiss leading IoT company, today announced that its Diabetes Smart Tracker has won the CES Innovation Award in the Category Sport, Fitness & Biotech Award Honoree from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®).

Bee is the world’s first diabetes and glucose tracking device that transmits insulin injection data and glucose levels via Bluetooth to a smartphone or tablet powered by iOS or Android. Bee helps users by creating a log book of insulin injection and blood sugar level data that can then be shared with their loved ones and healthcare providers via myriad channels.

According to the WHO, 347 million people worldwide have diabetes. Among them, 10% suffer from Type 1 diabetes, previously known as insulin-dependent. Poorly controlled diabetes causes severe morbidity and mortality, creating a huge economic and emotional cost. Smart diabetic control can substantially decrease complications. But, properly managing insulin injections and blood sugar levels is complex and painstaking work. It requires understanding, careful record keeping, and good coordination between patients and caregivers.

Bee is fueling this advance in good healthcare. The device, which embraces the Internet of Thing paradigm, empowers patients with convenient and robust recordkeeping of critical insulin and blood sugar data. Moreover, Bee is designed for the whole healthcare community and encouraged for use by patients, families, local caregivers, and healthcare professionals to improve the lives of people living with diabetes.

Bee is compatible with most insulin pens available on the market. The device registers insulin units and blood sugar levels, and then transfers the data through Bluetooth to a dedicated secured mobile application, making it easy to self-monitor diabetes. If that device isn’t around at the moment, Bee saves the data for later
transmission.

Bee is compatible with FlexPen®, FlexTouch®, NovoPen® 4, NovoPen Echo® and NovoPen® 3 PenMate from Novo Nordisk, KwikPen™, HumaPen® LUXURA HD, HumaPen® LUXURA and HumaPen Ergo® 2 from Lilly as well as SoloSTAR® and ClikSTAR® from Sanofi Aventis. Bee can also detach from the insulin pen and function as a pocket-sized device that goes anywhere the user goes.

Bee retail price is $69.99 available worldwide and in the USA in its pocket version. Its dedicated smart application is available for iOS and Android.

Vigilant Smart Diabetes Tracker will be displayed at The Venetian at the 2015 International CES, which runs January 6-9, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada (Vigilant’s booth number: 73724). Bee as an Innovation Awards will also be displayed at CES Unveiled, the official media event of the International CES from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 4 in South Seas Ballroom C at Mandalay Bay.
