Cognitive Networks “Making Smart TVs Smarter”

Leading Provider of Real-Time Services Powered by ACR Technology to Exhibit at CES Unveiled and Booth #15126a in LVCC Central Hall at International CES 2015

San Francisco, CA — Cognitive Networks, a California-based provider of real-time services powered by automatic content recognition (ACR) technology, has produced a groundbreaking platform that enables Smart TVs to launch applications that are intelligently synchronized with live or time-shifted television.

The company will display and demo this new technology at the International CES, January 6-9 from Booth #15126a in the Las Vegas Convention Center Central Hall. The company will also exhibit at CES Unveiled on Sunday, January 4, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino.

Designed for integration during the manufacturing process, Cognitive-enabled Smart TVs allow viewers to experience TV rather than simply watch it.

When activated on Smart TVs, Cognitive’s proprietary technology identifies content as it is broadcast and establishes an immediate connection with TV programmers, allowing them to automatically launch interactive applications in real time — all designed to enhance, support and maximize the viewing experience. Now, for the first time ever, Smart TVs can transform traditionally static content into entertainment that is more personalized … more interactive … more fun.

Essentially, Cognitive Networks makes Smart TVs “smarter.”

According to Cognitive’s founder and Chief Technical Officer Zeev Neumeier, traditional Smart TVs receive only video and audio from set-top boxes with no information about the content displayed. As a result, they cannot intelligently connect the applications plane with the video plane of the TV.

Smart TVs are, in effect, deliberately blinded by the void of program data from set-top boxes.

“Cognitive Networks is distinct from all other providers of content recognition services in at least three ways,” says CEO Michael Collette. “First, our patented system was custom-built from the ground up specifically to work with Smart TVs. Other companies have tried to port existing systems to TVs and have all failed due to a lack of understanding of the unique operating and performance requirements posed by Smart TVs. Second, our core technology was built specifically to allow television partners to identify and then respond immediately to viewer behavior, allowing them to truly ‘strike while the iron is hot’ — whether to augment the content or extend the value of an ad. Then lastly, we’re not just selling to major manufacturers; we are actually partnering with them. Since our founding in 2008 we have been incubated by a leading TV OEM. We are now fully deployed with LG, one of the world’s most dominant manufacturers. And as we are currently working with two other industry giants, our service stands poised for immediate integration into the next generation of Smart television. These relationships are destined to make us true market leaders in this genre.”

Earlier this year, Cognitive Networks earned one of Red Herring’s Top 100 North America awards, honoring the year’s most promising private technology companies in America based on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, including financial performance, technology innovation and intellectual property, management quality, business model, customer footprint and market penetration.
